This regulated Level 2 Award in Basic Life Support & Safe Use of an Automated External Defibrillator (RQF) is designed to equip learners with the vital skills to competently and confidently use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
It also includes essential training in basic life support, including resuscitation. This course is crucial as AED availability and qualified personnel can dramatically increase survival rates for the approximately 200,000 lives claimed annually by heart and circulatory disease.
The course requires a minimum of 4 contact hours in the classroom, blending practical and theoretical activities, making it suitable for a half-day session. The syllabus covers responsibilities and reporting, assessing situations, dealing with unresponsive casualties, infection control, resuscitation, AED functions, defibrillation procedures, and safety measures.
The qualification is valid for three years, with annual refresher training recommended. A maximum of 12 students can attend, with a minimum age of 14 years required to qualify.
